Punk legends NOFX coming to Beijing in April
NOFX, one of the great punk bands of the last two decades, has recently announced the dates for their upcoming tour to Asia including a show in Beijing on April 13th at The Star Live. The show will be presented by Rock For China Entertainment Ltd, who also organizes the annual Beijing Pop Festival. In addition, Hong Kong hardcore band King Ly Chee will open for NOFX as their Asian tour supporting act.
Formed in Berkeley, CA, in 1983 and relocating to Los Angeles not long afterwards, NOFX steered clear of major labels and the mainstream exposure over the course of their career, while recording an impressive number of highly successful full-length albums plus an assortment of EPs and singles. With a reputation for intensely passionate live performances, as well as a concern for social warfare, NOFX has been one of the most talked about and followed punk bands of our generation. In addition, Fat Wreck Chords, the independent label run by the band’s vocalist/bassist Fat Mike, is a landmark punk rock label that features almost 50 bands including such names as Rise Against, Sick of it All, Propagandhi, and Less than Jake. Moreover, the band has also influenced many of mainland China’s seminal punk bands, such as Brain Failure and Reflector, and has a fanatical following with Beijing’s massive punk crowd.
King Ly Chee is one of the most popular rock bands coming out of Hong Kong today. They have a big fanbase in mainland China and throughout Southeast Asia. In 2003, Hong Kong rock legend Paul Wong (Beyond’s vocalist/guitarist) signed King Ly Chee to his own label Polar Bear, and produced their second album “Stands Strong”.
On March 31st, Rock For China will also host a special tribute show to NOFX at Cool Music House. It has selected some of the best local punk acts to cover some of NOFX's classic works. One of these bands and Reflector will also open the NOFX/King Ly Chee show.
